Homer 1999-2012    Good-bye my dear friend. Homer passed onto the Rainbow Bridge last week and we will miss him beyond words.  My sister sent this saying to me and it is so true, the final act of love for our Homer was to let him go and run free.  How we will miss him....

FROM FRIEND TO FRIEND

You're giving me a special gift,
So sorrowfully endowed,
And through these last few cherished days,
Your courage makes me proud.

But really, love is knowing
When your best friend is in pain,
And understanding earthly acts,
Will only be in vain.

So looking deep into your eyes,
Beyond, into your soul,
I see in you the magic, that will
Once more make me whole.

The strength that you possess,
Is why I look to you today,
To do this thing that must be done,
For it's the only way.

That strength is why I followed you,
And chose you as my friend,
And why I loved you all these years....
My partner 'til the end.

Please understand just what this gift,
Your giving, means to me,
It gives me back the strength I've lost,
And all my dignity.

You take a stand on my behalf,
For that is what friends do,
And know that what you do is right,
For I believe it too.

So one last time I breathe your scent,
And through your hand I feel,
The courage that's within you,
To now grant me this appeal.

Cut the leash that holds me here,
Dear friend, and let me run,
Once more a strong and steady dog,
My pain and struggle done.

And don't despair my passing,
For I won't be far away,
Forever here, within your heart,
And memory I'll stay.

I'll be there watching over you,
Your ever faithful friend,
And in your memories I'll run,
..... a young dog once again.

Oh Barby, I am so sad to hear about dear little Homer. I remember the 'chats' we had and know how much you loved him. He was a lucky boy to have had you in his life, and no doubt you feel the same about him. Enjoy your new life at the bridge little boy.

Hugs

Thank you, yes he was a special little boy to us and I am sure many of you know the pain of losing someone so dear. Knowing people care helps so much. Our 6 year old pug Rudy was having a really hard time but I see he is starting to come around now with lots of love, a new toy, and some buttered peas. Thank you all for your kind words....I really appreciate you all taking the time to write.

What a wonderful sentiment, it brought tears to my eyes but at the same time is very consoling, and I think so true. Your kind sister knows how much your pets mean to you obviously, so sweet. Hope your sorrow eases soon.

Thank you for taking the time to post a note Margaret, yes my sister knows just how much I love my dear furry companions as she feels just the same about hers. Life would be so very empty without a furry family member to love.

So sad, sorry for your loss, I read this while at work and sat at my desk in tears. I have 2 dogs that are both getting on in years and the thought of loosing them is unbearable. I know he must be happy at the Rainbow Bridge.

Thank you Elaine. I am so sorry you have dogs that are getting older. I know I feared that about a year or two ago and it was not an easy thing to think about. I just had hoped Homer would die in his sleep by my side in bed one night. But instead we had to make the sorrowful choice for him, however I am so glad we had a mobile vet come to our home to put him to sleep. He had no fear, he was comfortable on a blanket, and he had my husband and I loving him all his life. I will see him again and when your time comes with yours, you will see them again also. This I know....

Barby, I'm so very sorry. It breaks our hearts to let our little fellows go. But I believe that one day we will all meet again.
Your sister wrote such touching and true words...
Sending you a hug from Germany.

Dear Homer, I know you will love romping the woods and valleys with our Ezra who has also gone to that special place just for dogs.
Hope you are holding up Barby, I know this was tough on you, sending a hug your way> Fondly from the Hollow, Jeri

Thank you Jeri. Yes it has been a very hard time for me. I know Ezra holds a very special place in your heart also and what a sweet endearing face on your dear Ezra. It is a wonderful thought that Ezra and Homer can have young bodies once again and enjoy romping with each other in the woods. I know Homer would love that. Thank you for thinking of me Jeri, I truly appreciate your kind words and I know Homer does also.

May your fond memories of your sweet Ezra make you smile.....
